Finding The Way To Glow Worm Glen
Finding the walk to glow worm glen is rather easy, with a starting point from two possible locations. For close parking to town, park your car near the end of William Street and walk to the end of the road. You will notice a sign indicating the start of the walk, the marked trail leads from here.
Glow worm Glen is home to an amazing light display when the glow-worms come out at night. These glow worms are so incredible because they use bioluminescence to attract their prey and are unique to Australia and New Zealand.
The walk is about an hour return without taking into account viewing time. The best season to see the worms is during summer from December to February. It is recommended that you start your walk at dusk, right as the sun is going down so that you have a light on your way down and that it is dark by the time you reach the glen. Remember that it is going to be pitch black on your return, so take some torches with you to ensure you make it back safely.
While Visiting Glow Worm Glen
When approaching the glen to be quiet and lower your lights or turn them off as the worms are sensitive to light and noise. When taking photos of the worms, it is recommended that you use long exposures to capture them and avoid using flash photography. Don't forget to look closely at some of the fungus growing near the base of the trees, you will notice that even the mushrooms glow in the dark.
Even during the day glow worm glen is a lovely place to visit and worth checking out while in the area as there are a lot of nice walks close by such as Fair bower falls and Erith coal mine.
It should also be noted that there is no guarantee that there will be many if any glow worms out, sometimes even during summer nights, not all the glow worms will be shinning, more often then not though if you go there will be plenty of glow worms out to see. It's a truly magical walk even if you don't get to see any of the glowing larvae.
