Cedar Creek Falls Track, Tamborine National Park

Cedar Creek Falls Track is one of the most popular short walks in Tamborine National Park, in the Gold Coast hinterland. The walk offers easy access to a waterfall lookout, rocky gorge views and, for those continuing further, the rock pools below Cedar Creek Falls.

The walk starts from the Cedar Creek Falls day-use area, where the track leads towards the lookout through open forest and bushland. This first section is short, well formed and suitable for strollers and wheelchairs with assistance. It is a good option for families, photographers and visitors who want a quick view of the falls without tackling the steeper lower track.

Cedar Creek Falls Lookout

The lookout track is 500 m return and takes around 15 minutes. From the viewing area, you can look across the gorge to Cedar Creek Falls as water drops over the rock ledges into the pools below.

This is the easiest way to experience Cedar Creek Falls. It also gives you a great overview of the landscape, with rugged cliffs, eucalypt forest and the creek cutting through the valley.

Walking to the rock pools

For a closer look, continue along the Cedar Creek Falls track to the rock pools. This section is 1.1 km return and takes around 30 minutes.

The track becomes steeper and more uneven as it descends towards the creek. Along the way, you’ll pass rocky sections, stairs and views into the gorge. As a result, the walk feels more adventurous than the short distance suggests.

At the bottom, Cedar Creek flows through a series of rock pools and cascades. This is the most scenic part of the walk, especially after rain when the falls are flowing well.

Swimming and safety

Swimming is often a major reason people visit Cedar Creek Falls. However, conditions can change quickly, so always follow local signs and stay out of closed areas.

Take care on wet rocks, as they can be extremely slippery. Also, avoid jumping or diving into the pools, since water depth can change and hidden rocks may sit below the surface. Children should be supervised closely around the creek and rock pools.

Facilities and access

The Cedar Creek Falls day-use area has picnic facilities and toilets. Queensland Parks notes that the toilets and picnic areas at Cedar Creek are accessible with assistance, although the picnic area can become boggy after rain.

Parking can fill quickly on weekends, school holidays and warm days. Therefore, arrive early if you want a quieter visit and easier access to the car park.

Cedar Creek Falls Track is a great short walk for visitors exploring Tamborine Mountain. With a quick lookout option, a steeper track to the rock pools and classic Gold Coast hinterland scenery, it is an easy walk to add to a day in Tamborine National Park.
