Details
Curtis Falls Track is one of the most popular short walks in Tamborine National Park, offering an easy rainforest escape in the Gold Coast hinterland. Located in the Joalah section of the park, this 1.1 km return walk takes around 30 minutes to complete and leads through beautiful forest to a lookout overlooking Curtis Falls.
The walk begins from the Dapsang Drive car park, where toilets and large vehicle parking are available. From the trailhead, the track descends through wet eucalypt forest beneath tall flooded gums before entering cooler subtropical rainforest. Along the way, keep an eye out for crows nest ferns, staghorn ferns, strangler figs and the lush green canopy that makes Tamborine Mountain such a scenic walking destination.
The highlight of the walk is the viewing area at Curtis Falls, where water spills over a basalt rock face into the pool below. Depending on recent rain, the falls may appear as a gentle curtain of water or a stronger cascade. The surrounding rainforest, mossy rocks and shaded gully make this one of the most atmospheric waterfall walks in Tamborine National Park.
Although Curtis Falls Track is short, it is classified as a Grade 3 walk and includes steps, uneven surfaces and a climb back up to the car park on the return. The track can be slippery after rain, so sturdy walking shoes are recommended. Allow extra time if you are walking with children, stopping for photos or enjoying the rainforest along the way.
Visitors should note that access to the Curtis Falls rock pool and the area around the base of the falls is not permitted. This restricted area helps protect local wildlife, including glow-worms and platypus populations, while also keeping visitors safe around wet rocks and deep water.
For those wanting a longer walk, the nearby Lower Creek Circuit branches off from the Curtis Falls Track and continues through rainforest beside Cedar Creek. This option is more challenging and includes creek crossings, so Curtis Falls Track is the better choice if you are looking for a short and accessible waterfall walk.
Curtis Falls Track is a great option for families, photographers and visitors exploring Tamborine Mountain. With rainforest, ferns, basalt cliffs and a beautiful waterfall lookout packed into a short return walk, it is one of the best easy walks in Tamborine National Park.
