Yerrinbool Falls Walk, Southern Highlands NSW

Yerrinbool Falls is a secluded waterfall walk near Yerrinbool in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales. Tucked away on the edge of Bargo State Conservation Area, this short but adventurous walk leads through quiet bushland to a peaceful waterfall and swimming hole, well away from the busier tracks around Mittagong, Bowral and Robertson.

The walk starts near the end of Formosa Avenue in Yerrinbool. From here, the route initially follows a fire trail before becoming a more informal bush track towards Yerrinbool Falls. Unlike many popular waterfall walks, this is not a highly maintained or clearly signposted track, so it is better suited to confident walkers with good navigation skills.

The route descends through dry eucalypt forest and scrub before dropping into a steep gully near the falls. Although the walk is relatively short, the terrain makes it feel more challenging than the distance suggests. Expect uneven ground, loose surfaces, overgrown sections and a steep climb back out on the return.

The reward is a quiet waterfall setting with layered rock ledges, a small cascade and a natural pool surrounded by bushland. After rain, Yerrinbool Falls can be especially scenic, although wet conditions can also make the track slippery and more difficult. In drier periods, the waterfall may be reduced to a gentler flow.

Yerrinbool Falls is best suited to walkers looking for a quieter Southern Highlands bushwalk rather than a polished tourist trail. Wear sturdy shoes, carry water, download a map before leaving home and allow extra time for route finding. Mobile reception may be unreliable in the area, and the informal nature of the route means conditions can change quickly.

For experienced walkers wanting to explore beyond the better-known Southern Highlands waterfalls, Yerrinbool Falls is an enjoyable short adventure. With quiet bushland, a steep gully and a secluded waterfall at the end, it offers a wilder alternative to the region’s more developed walking tracks.
