Mares Forest Creek is located in Wombeyan Caves just near the camp site. The walk takes around 40 minutes return and offers an amazing experience of self exploring a cave as well as swimming in crystal clear blue waters. The walk is fairly easy although there are some steep sections heading up the walking track and also when returning. There is a free cave which you are able to self explore on the way which is lit and has a timer on it. The cave will take you to a viewing platform of Mares Forest Creek. If you return the same way you came out of the path and follow it back down the trail you will be able to enter the creek. Being a self exploring cave, you can do this cave at your own pace.

Swimming at Mares Forest Creek

Mares Forest Creek is very cold even in summer. It is refreshing to go for a swim after the walk but remember to wear swimmers and to pack a towel. The water level changes in different spots of the water. Little caves in the water provide homes for many spiders and there are always many lizards sun bathing on the rocks. The limestone the makes of the canyon of mares Forest Creek creates that tranquil sky blue water. On your walk you will most likely see many forms of wildlife such as Kangaroos, lizards, snakes, native birds and wombats. The rocks provide a lovely spot for a picnic or you can can always grab a cold drink from the kiosk back at the carpark.
