This is a great beach walk that can be done with your pet pooch. The majority of Jimmy’s beach and Bennetts Beach permit dogs off-leash between dawn and dusk.

The track starts at the day-use area of Jimmy’s Beach Holiday Park. Follow the 4WD track up and over the sand dunes to Jimmy’s beach. The sand here is flat and makes for easy walking. The water on this side of the bay is very calm and clear and perfect for swimming – although be aware that there is a Bull Shark breeding ground nearby!! Continue walking up and around the beach heading towards Yacaaba Headland. A couple hundred metres before the end of the beach is a turn off on the left hand side which leads you back over the sand dunes towards Bennetts Beach; it’s fairly obvious – look out for the tyre tracks. Once on Bennetts beach you have two options. The pet friendly option is to keep walking North on the Yacaaba Spit Track along the beach. After about 1.5km there is a turn-off from the beach which leads you to a track through Jimmy’s Beach reserve and back to the day-use area. The second option is to head South on Yacaaba Spit Track and walk out to the Yacaaba Headland, part of Myall Lakes National Park. The track rises steeply up from the beach giving you amazing views along the coastline of Tomaree Headland, Seal Rocks and Cabbage Tree Island out to sea. Please note that the time estimate is given for the Pet Friendly walking option. If heading up to Yacaaba Head allow 2-3 hours for the steep gradient and 200m elevation gain. The track up the headland is well sign-posted but the ground is uneven and the last 500m section to the top is steep and challenging.
