Jibbon Beach Walk, Bundeena

Jibbon Beach Loop Track is a scenic coastal walk from Bundeena in Royal National Park, combining a quiet sandy beach, Port Hacking views, coastal heath and one of the most accessible Aboriginal engraving sites in the Sydney region. This 5 km loop takes around 2 hours and is a great option for walkers looking for an easy coastal walk near Cronulla, Bundeena and Sydney’s south.

The walk begins in the relaxed village of Bundeena, which can be reached by car through Royal National Park or by ferry from Cronulla. From town, the route heads towards Jibbon Beach, a sheltered crescent-shaped beach at the eastern end of Bundeena. The beach looks north across the entrance to Port Hacking and is a peaceful place to start the walk, especially in the morning when the water is calm.

After following the sand along Jibbon Beach, the track continues towards Jibbon Head. This section passes through coastal bushland and offers views across Port Hacking, with Cronulla visible on the opposite side of the water. Depending on the season, you may spot birdlife, dolphins or whales from the headland and nearby coastal viewpoints.

The highlight of the walk is the Jibbon Head Aboriginal engraving site. A raised boardwalk and viewing platform allow visitors to see the ancient sandstone engravings while helping protect the site from damage. NSW National Parks describes the Jibbon Headland engravings as one of the region’s finest expressions of Aboriginal culture, highlighting the Dharawal People’s past and present connections to the land. Please stay on the boardwalk, do not touch the engravings and treat the area with care and respect.

From the engravings, the loop continues around the headland through coastal heath, sandstone and bush tracks. The walking is generally easy, but some sections can be sandy, uneven, muddy or overgrown after rain. Fallen branches and narrow sections of track are also possible, so enclosed shoes are recommended.

Jibbon Beach itself is unpatrolled and has no beach facilities, so take care if swimming and check conditions before entering the water. NSW Government also recommends checking Royal National Park safety alerts before travelling.

Jibbon Beach Loop Track is a rewarding short walk for families, visitors to Bundeena and anyone wanting a coastal walk with both natural and cultural interest. With beach scenery, Port Hacking views, coastal bushland and the Jibbon Head engravings, it is one of the best easy walks in Royal National Park.
