60 Foot Falls
Details
Two possible tracks for 60 foot falls
The 60 foot falls track has two possible starting locations. The easiest of which is as listed is a 3km return trek taking about 1 hour, the first half of which is a clearly marked fire trail. The track follows the river the whole way to the top of 60 Foot falls. It makes for some lush bushwalking the whole way. Parking can be found at the Mittagong pools car park or you can park up further at the start of the fire trail.
The second possible route is more difficult and is roughly 4km. You should allow 2 hours if you are taking this route, it starts from the mount Alexandra lookout rd Mittagong. This path with take you through the old coke tunnel, a tunnel through the stone that used to be used to bring coal in for the local iron works. while you're there the Katoomba lookout is worth checking out and is only 500m from the car park.
The track (regardless of chosen track) will bring you to the top of the falls, you can get down to the bottom of the falls however the rocks are steep and there is no marked path so take your time and watch for any slippery spots. Once down a the bottom of the falls the water is deep enough to get in to cool down but not for deep swimming. There is a second pool 50m downstream from the bottom of 60 foot falls also with a small waterfall into another pool.
