Sea Cliff Bridge Lookout is easily the greatest location in the Wollongong region for a sunrise. The Iconic Sea cliff bridge connects Coalcliff and Clifton, built to replace the eroding cliff hugging road. The bridge is featured in countless car and tourism advertisements for its unique characteristics. If early mornings aren't you thing but Photography is, then this spot also makes for excellent long exposure photography of cars lights travelling along the bridge.

The Sea Cliff Bridge Trail Head

The start of the track up to view sea cliff bridge starts on the south side of the bridge. Find parking on the Clifton side and walk towards the bridge. Heading north on the bridge on the left side of the road you will see a white sign with black writing with "Sea Cliff bridge" written in it. In front of this sign there is a small parking bay. The bushes by this parking bay is the start of the trail up to the top of sea cliff bridge. You should notice a slightly worn in track heading into the thick bushes. If still unclear as to where the trail head starts, the map below pinpoints the location.

Once you are on the track you will notice a warn in track that starts leading up hill to the lookout. Take note that the track up is very steep so make sure to wear appropriate footwear. If going for sunrise or sunset remember a head torch as your hands will be mostly tied up for the climb uphill. The track up is only a few hundred meters but will take you roughly 15-20 minutes to climb up. There are several warn in tracks on the way up but they all mostly meet back up.

We will love to see your photographs of the bridge from here, tag us on instagram in your photos and #pioneerwalks.

Please note that this is an unofficial track and there are no safety precautions in place for this walk.

Hi Glenn, The walk that you have commented on is a guide to the place you are after, is there anything in the above guide that you need us to clear up?

  2. Yin says:

Looks and sounds great. Would I be able to walk the Sea Cliff Bridge from Coal Cliff Train Station location to Stanwell Park train station? Is there a turn off to Stanwell Park train station from the bridge?

    1. Pioneer Walks says:

Hi Yin, The bridge has a walk way the whole way along it, hope that helps 🙂 Scarborough Station is another station to consider as well, I would maybe street view them/google maps to work out which one you’d rather walk from.

  3. Chat says:

Hi, would you have any pics of how steep the climb is? Wondering if my poor knees can handle it 😬 thanks in advance!

  4. Jada says:

There area so many paths! Thankfully someone had put yellow tape around the trees and a length is hose to grab onto. Follow the tape a you pop out into the views.

Hi All.. the Seacliff Bridge unofficial lookout is considered trespassing so therefore IS illegal. It is the site of a recent death where a 24 year old man ventured too close to the edge and slipped on the loose ground, sliding 20 meters to the edge and a further 40 meters to the rocks below. It is a very dangerous location I therefore recommend that if you are so desperate to get a photograph from above the bridge, buy a drone and live to tell the tale.
