Bullocks Hut
Details
Bullocks Hut is one of the first stops along the Thredbo Valley Track. It's located within the Kosciuszko National Park and was built in 1934 as a fishing lodge for Dr Bullock. Today the buildings still remain, overlooking where the joining of Little Thredbo River and Thredbo River and the beautiful Snowy Mountains. Bask in a great location to explore some Australian history, enjoy a picnic and take in some views.
It's important to consider the time of year that you plan to visit, as the tracks and/or roads will close if weather conditions do not permit safe access. A park entry fee will apply on a per vehicle basis, with winter months containing additional fees than other times of the year.
Getting to Bullocks Hut Via The Skitube Terminal
For the easiest and most direct access to the huts, we recommend parking at car park D of Bullocks Hut Skitube Terminal just off SkiTube Way. You'll pass the main station and park in the furthest car park where you'll see signs for the start of a walk.
From here you will then follow the path to the huts. You'll notice some little turn-offs you can take but stay on the pavement for the quickest route. After just 500 metres, see the huts to your right just after passing the rail bridge.
Bullocks Hut Via Stockwhip Way
Another way to access this track is through Lake Crackenback Resort, parking at the small car park along Stockwhip Way. There is very limited parking here, with approximately only enough spaces for 3 cars. This is a good entry point though if you wanted to take in the views that the surrounding area has to offer.
Park on your right, before crossing over the bridge to begin the walk. You will notice that there are two unpathed tracks to follow, one is labelled for mountain bikes, while the other is for bushwalkers. You will follow this path along the Little Thredbo River for most of it, with a few nice little worn in animals trails that offer nice views upstream.
After approximately 500m, you will come to a split in the track with an information board for Thredbo Valley Track. You can continue to go straight which will take you to Thredbo River which will take you to views looking directly towards Bullocks Hut but with no direct access there. Consider backtracking here before leaving because the views are worth it!
To access the huts directly, you will take the small wooden bridge on your left and then follow the concrete path directly to the huts. Don't forget to go exploring in all of them but remember to close the doors before you leave!
